Gran Canaria 365 Arrives at the World Travel Market in London
- The initiative features world champions Tadej Pogačar and Magdeleine Vallieres as ambassadors
- The delegation, led by the Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo, aims to establish the island as a leading cycling destination
The Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo, together with Nicolás Villalobos, President of Tri Bike & Run; Bárbara Svehlakova, Managing Director of Tri Bike & Run; and DG Eventos’ Managing Director, Daniel González, took part in the World Travel Market (WTM) in London — one of the most important tourism fairs in the world, with over 5,000 destinations represented and thousands of business and networking opportunities.
The Gran Canaria delegation attended the event to present Gran Canaria 365, an ambitious project designed to position the island as an international year-round cycling destination. In addition, the teams from DG Eventos, Turismo de Gran Canaria, and Tri Bike & Run held meetings with tour operators, specialized media, and industry professionals to strengthen the island’s promotion as a sports and sustainable tourism destination.
Gran Canaria 365 boasts two outstanding ambassadors: world champions Tadej Pogačar and Magdeleine Vallieres. Together with around twenty other cyclists, they will take part in training sessions across the island from November 24 to 30. Both riders will also participate in the TotalEnergies Gran Fondo Pico de las Nieves, taking place on November 30.
Carlos Álamo explained, “We wanted to bring to the World Travel Market an innovative event that we believe fits perfectly with the profile of today’s British traveler, who is increasingly interested in sports tourism as much as in sun and beach experiences.”
A Long-Term Initiative
From November 24 to 30, more than twenty cyclists from the international peloton — including Jasper Philipsen, Italians Giulio Ciccone, Antonio Tiberi, and Lorenzo Rota, Czech rider Mathias Vacek, and prominent female cyclists Mavi García, Elisa Balsamo, and Urška Žigart — will train at various locations around the island, culminating with the challenging ascent to Pico de las Nieves. At the same time, an international press trip will take place to further promote the island as a privileged setting for professional training and active tourism.
Gran Canaria 365 is an initiative created by DG Eventos and promoted by Turismo de Gran Canaria through the Tri Bike & Run program, with the goal of consolidating a sustainable development model centered around sports, nature, and the island’s exceptional climate.
