‘Hello, I’m Tadej Pogačar and I’m very happy to announce that I’m coming to Gran Canaria this year to do my pre-season training and take part in the TotalEnergies Gran Fondo Pico de las Nieves’. With these words, made this Tuesday in Toulouse, during the rest day of the Tour de France calendar, together with the Minister of Tourism Carlos Álamo and the promoter Daniel González, head of DG Eventos, the reigning Tour champion and cycling legend announced his presence on the island of Gran Canaria and his participation in the new Gran Canaria 365.

In this way, the best cyclist of the moment signs with Gran Canaria through the Gran Canaria Tri Bike Run, a public-private initiative in which Tourism of Gran Canaria and businessmen of the sector come together. Tadej Pogačar, on his way to winning his fourth Tour de France, will train and compete on the island this autumn, to consolidate the island as one of the most outstanding cycling destinations on the international scene with the celebration of the Gran Canaria 365 event, a unique experience that will bring together more than twenty of the best cyclists in the world, including the current world champion, from 24 to 30 November.
The Councillor for Tourism of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo, together with the manager of DG Eventos, Daniel González, posed with the Slovenian cyclist, considered one of the great references of the international peloton, and who will not only participate in this experience, but has been named ambassador of the Gran Canaria 365 initiative, an ambitious bid to position the island as a cycling paradise all year round.

‘From Gran Canaria Tourism we work to turn our island into the best tourist destination for outdoor sports 365 days a year and we have attracted Tadej Pogačar, the best cyclist today, convinced that it will allow us, thanks to the international showcase, many cycling enthusiasts and professionals’, said the Councillor for Tourism of the Cabildo, who noted that the tourist who comes to the destination to practice sport already represents 12% of the total. ‘It is also good for the island, because it is a customer who is more aware of sustainability, who spends more in the destination,’ added Carlos Álamo.
Starting from 24 to 30 November 2025, the cyclists will carry out training sessions in different parts of the island, taking advantage of the privileged climate, the quality of the infrastructures and the diversity of the landscape that Gran Canaria has to offer. As a culmination, they will take part in the emblematic TotalEnergies Gran Fondo Pico de Las Nieves, one of the most demanding and recognised events on the cycling calendar.
Alongside the Slovenian star, the event will also be attended by more than twenty prominent riders from the international peloton, such as the Italians Giulio Ciccone, Antonio Tiberi and Lorenzo Rota, the Czech Mathias Vacek, Elisa Balsamo and the Slovenian Urška Žigart, in a luxury line-up that reinforces the international projection of the event.
During the same week, a press trip will also take place with the participation of international media. This promotional action aims to reinforce the visibility of Gran Canaria at a global level and to position the island as a key training point for the 2026 cycling season.
