In recent years, the Arucas City Council has aimed to attract top-level sporting events to the municipality in order to promote sports and healthy living, as well as to enhance the town’s image and boost the local economy.

In this context, the cycling event known as the Gran Fondo Pico de Las Nieves is part of the prestigious TotalEnergies Challenge, which includes renowned races such as the Alpium, La Induráin, La Perico, GF A. Contador, and GF Pico de Las Nieves. The 2025 edition of the TotalEnergies Gran Fondo Pico de Las Nieves will feature a demanding course and two different formats. The race is part of the traditional Gran Canaria Bike Week, which in 2025 celebrates its 37th edition, positioning Gran Canaria as a major destination in the cycling world. It will take place from November 30 to December 7, 2025, consisting of 7 stages. Last year (2024), it drew over 1,700 participants, covering more than 600 kilometers across 12 municipalities in Gran Canaria.

The presentation of this agreement took place today, Friday, August 1 at 10:00 a.m. in the Hall of the Arucas Tourist Office, and was attended by the Mayor of Arucas, Juan Jesús Facundo, the Gran Canaria Island Councilor for Tourism, Carlos Álamo, and the Director of DG Eventos, Daniel González.
